John Stuelpnagel has been Chairman of Inscripta^® since 2017. He co-founded Illumina in 1997, becoming its first CEO, and later its COO. During his 12 years with Illumina, Dr. Stuelpnagel was a driving force behind the company’s transformation from a private start-up to the global leader in next-generation sequencing. 

After leaving Illumina in 2009, Dr. Stuelpnagel co-founded Ariosa Diagnostics, where he also served as Executive Chairman until the company’s acquisition by Roche in 2015. Dr. Stuelpnagel was the Chairman at Sequenta from 2010 until it was acquired by Adaptive where he remained a board member until 2017. In addition, he previously served as the Chairman of Element Biosciences from 2017 to 2023. 

Currently, Dr. Stuelpnagel is also the Chairman at 10x Genomics (since 2013) and Fabric Genomics). He is also a member of the board of directors for Encoded Therapeutics.

Dr. Stuelpnagel began his career as an associate at CW Group from 1997 to 1998.

He holds a doctorate in Veterinary Medicine and a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of California, Davis, and an M.B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles.

An experienced growth company leader, Sri joined Inscripta^® as President and CEO in October 2020. Prior to that, Sri was President of Penumbra (NYSE: PEN), a global healthcare company focused on innovative therapies. Sri joined Penumbra in 2015, serving as CFO and Head of Strategy until his promotion to President in 2019. Earlier in his career, he spent 16 years at JPMorgan serving as Head of Healthcare and co-Head of Technology Equity Capital Markets working with emerging, high-growth life science and technology companies.

Sri currently serves on the Board of Directors of Inscripta^®, 10x Genomics (Nasdaq: TXG), where he is also Chair of the Audit Committee, and Nevro (NYSE: NVRO).

Kristala has served on Inscripta^®’s board of directors since December 2021. She brings years of experience and deep expertise in synthetic biology, with a distinguished scientific background, and a thoughtful perspective on the field.

Kristala is currently the Arthur D. Little Professor and Executive Officer of the Department of Chemical Engineering at MIT. Her research interests are centered on the design and assembly of recombinant microorganisms for the production of small molecules, with additional efforts in novel bioprocess design approaches. Prior to joining the faculty of MIT, she spent 4 years in BioProcess Research and Development at Merck Research Labs (Rahway, NJ).

Prather has been the recipient of many awards including the Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award (2005), a Technology Review “TR35” Young Innovator Award (2007), a National Science Foundation CAREER Award (2010), the Biochemical Engineering Journal Young Investigator Award (2011), the Charles Thom Award of the Society for Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology (2017), and the Andreas Acrivos Award for Professional Progress in Chemical Engineering (AIChE, 2021).

She holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, and a B. S. in Chemical Engineering from MIT.

Bryan has served on Inscripta^®’s board of directors since 2017. He joined Venrock as a Kauffman Fellow in 1997 and is based in Venrock’s Palo Alto office focusing on partnering with early-stage entrepreneurs innovating across the healthcare and life sciences industries. Bryan is currently involved with several companies across therapeutics, genomics, and health tech, including Aledade, Devoted Health, Element Biosciences, Encoded Therapeutics, Included Health, Inscripta^®, Interdict, Kelonia Therapeutics, MoonlightBio, Mythic Therapeutics, Lyra Health, SmithRx and Suki.ai. Past investments include 10x Genomics (NASDAQ: TXG), Ariosa Diagnostics (acquired by Roche), athenahealth (NASDAQ: ATHN), Fate Therapeutics (NASDAQ: FATE), Ikaria (acquired by Mallinckrodt), Illumina (NASDAQ: ILMN), Ironwood Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: IRWD), Receptos (acquired by Celgene), Sirna Therapeutics (acquired by Merck), and Zeltiq (acquired by Allergan).

Bryan received his Ph.D. in Chemistry & Chemical Biology from Harvard University. He received his B.A. from Dartmouth College.

Jim has served on Inscripta^®’s board since 2024. He is the founder and chief executive officer of Foresite Capital, a U.S.-focused healthcare investment firm founded in 2011 that has approximately $3.5 billion in assets under management. Jim assembles the people, ideas and money needed to launch products that save lives and improve healthcare. He is always looking for visionary entrepreneurs with insights into therapeutics, devices, diagnostics or services that could, with the right support, change the world.  

During the last three decades Jim has been a thought partner for some of the most impactful and fastest growth companies of their generation including: 10x Genomics (Nasdaq: TXG), Amerigroup (Nasdaq: ANTM), and Jazz Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: JAZZ).
Jim’s first success came while he was still at Harvard Business School when he co-founded GelTex Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq:GENZ). For less than $80 million in funding, GelTex brought two drugs to market. The company was acquired in 1999 for $1.4 billion when its lead drug, Renagel (later renamed Renvela), had an annual revenue run rate exceeding $19.5 million. Decades later, Renvela still has annual sales estimated over $850 million. Jim was the founding chief executive of Theravance, Inc. Under his tenure he raised over $350M. Theravance has since split into two parts, one of which is now part of GSK’s respiratory franchise through a joint venture, Innoviva (Nasdaq: INVA), and the other was spun out into Theravance Biopharma, Inc. (Nasdaq: TBPH). Together, they achieved a market capitalization that exceeded $4 billion.

Jim’s investment experience includes being a co-founder of Prospect Ventures and earlier in his career, a partner of Sierra Ventures, where he established its healthcare services investment practice.

Jim attended Yale, where he graduated with a BS and BSEE in Applied Math and Electrical Engineering/Computer Science.  He earned an MD from Harvard and graduated from the Harvard/MIT HST Program.  He also earned an MBA from Harvard while playing rugby.

Roger has served on the board of Inscripta^® since 2016. He is a Managing Partner of Spruce Capital Partners and BAR Capital Management. He co-founded Spruce Capital Partners which currently serves as the co-manager of Malaysian Life Sciences Capital Fund (MLSCF) and MLS Capital Fund II. Roger also has over 30 years of experience as an internationally recognized scientist and Dean at two major research universities: Rutgers and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

He currently serves on the boards of Amfora, Evolve BioSystems, Pivot Bio, Lanzatech and Segetis and is a member of the International Advisory Panel for Biotechnology (BioIAP) and the Global Science and Innovation Advisory Council (GSIAC) for the Prime Minister of Malaysia, as well as a member of the EU-based Knowledge Economy Network Advisory Board, among others.

Roger received a BS degree in Agronomy from Ohio State University and a PhD in Plant Physiology from Michigan State University.

Two decades of experience and innovation at the intersections of mathematics, computation, statistics, and biology. Deep expertise with the theory and application of machine intelligence (particularly in complex, high dimensional settings) to drive the rapid optimization of biological systems.

Richard received his PhD in Nuclear Engineering from University of California, Berkeley and his BS degree in Nuclear Engineering from University of California, Santa Barbara.

Jennifer is a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, the Center for Computational Biology, and the Bioengineering program at the University of California, Berkeley. She is also a member of the steering committee for the Berkeley AI Research (BAIR) Lab. From 2007 to 2017 she was at Microsoft Research, through Cambridge, MA (2014-2017), Los Angeles (2008-2014), and Redmond, WA (2007-2008). Jennifer’s research interests are broadly at the intersection of machine learning, applied statistics, molecular biology and science. Her current research is primarily in understanding how machine learning can be used to advance protein engineering.

Jennifer received her Ph.D. in the machine learning group in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Toronto, located in her hometown. She has two undergraduate degrees, one in Physics and one in Computer Science, from Queen’s University in Canada.
